Tameka Salis Montgomery, a member of the Montgomery County Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., recently launched “Raising Entrepreneurs: A Parent’s Guide to Fostering an Entrepreneurial Mindset,” a podcast that focuses on equipping parents with strategies and tactics for raising kids who think and act entrepreneurially. Five episodes in and she’s already curated a loyal following of parents seeking to raise children who are self-reliant and financially independent. Here what she has to say about her inspiration:
For the last 17 years my career has focused on equipping entrepreneurs. The highlight of my career was serving 3 ½ years as an executive at the U.S. Small Business Administration as an appointee of President Barack Obama.
Over the years working with entrepreneurs, I have observed that those who are able to achieve success as they’ve defined it, are those who push through their fears & doubts; they see problems as opportunities and are resourceful enough to figure out how to get it done; they have a clear vision for their future and are willing to do what’s required to make it happen; and they persist.
Now that I’m a parent, I’m clear about the type of people I want to launch out into the world. I want to make sure my boys are fully equipped with an entrepreneurial mindset to take on life proactively. Having an entrepreneurial mindset extends beyond being a business owner; it is about taking initiative, being resourceful, problem solving, and taking risk. These are life skills that can carry a person whether they are a business owner or an employee.
This is why I’ve launched the podcast, Raising Entrepreneurs: A Parent’s Guide to Fostering an Entrepreneurial Mindset. I am on a mission to equip myself and other parents with the knowledge to raise kids who are self-reliant, financially independent go-getters. Each week I feature thought leaders, experts, parents and young entrepreneurs and we discuss topics that relate to thinking and behaving entrepreneurially. My goal is to equip parents with strategies and tactics that they can use to empower their children and foster an entrepreneurial mindset.
